This Bao Zhong is slightly more oxidized, giving the tea a slightly more roasted, nuttier tone while still producing a heavenly floral aroma.
Mostly produced in Taiwan, here we have a Huang Shan Bao Zhong (Pouchong) oolong. This special tea from Huang Shan in Anhui Province, China. Historically, Bao Zhong oolong was produced in China, but was brought to Taiwan in the late 19th century and planted in a subtropical jungle near the capital Taipei.
The name "Bao Zhong" itself translates from Chinese to "wrapped variety" and comes from the ancient tradition of wrapping the tea leaves in paper during production. Although this is no longer the case thanks to modern tea production, the name has been preserved.
Compared to its Taiwanese counterpart, this Bao Zhong is slightly more oxidized, giving the tea a slightly more roasted, nuttier note while still producing a heavenly florality of lilac, gardenia and soft hints of vanilla in early extractions. Later extractions (or brewings) reveal notes of clover and minerals. Its character is preserved in many extractions due to the freshness of the leaves and the quality of the craftsmanship.
