The flavors of the tea are well balanced and lean towards sweet and woody notes. There are fruity and floral aspects to the taste reminiscent of cherry blossom.

A fascinating white tea made from ancient tea trees in Jinggu, Yunnan Province. The tea trees are about 100 years old and are probably of the species Camellia Taliensis, making it a very unique tea as 99.9% of teas today are made from different species of Camellia Sinensis.

There are many stories about this tea and its name “Yue Guang Bai”, which translates to “White Moonlight”. Most likely due to the appearance of the dried leaves, which are silvery and dark. Some say the tea is picked at night and the leaves never see the sunlight, others say the tea is picked during the day but dried indoors and in low light.

This batch of Yue Guang Bai White Moonlight white tea was picked in mid-spring 2020. The leaves have been carefully processed by hand, resulting in a beautiful blend of silvery buds and larger dark leaves – which is the result of the oxidation process while sun-dried.

Compared to other Yunnan Silver Needle teas, Yue Guang Bai White Moonlight is a much fuller tea. This is a direct result of using not only the buds but also one or two of the youngest tea leaves next to the buds. The flavors of the tea are well balanced and lean towards sweet and woody notes. There are fruity and floral aspects to the taste reminiscent of cherry blossom.

For this tea, we suggest that you try the traditional Chinese Gong FU style to brew your tea. The idea behind this technology is to use greater proportions of tea leaves for water and very short break times. By using more tea leaves and having very short brewing, you only manage to extract parts of the entire taste spectrum. The tea can then be enjoyed in so -called "sections", which gives a much more nuanced experience. As the taste develops gradually and it is much more leaves, this contributes to a much more intense taste than when brewing in Western style.
