Bai Mu Dan is an elegant white tea with roots in the scenic Yunnan province of China – an area otherwise primarily associated with darker and more powerful teas like pu-erh. Here, the region showcases another side of its tea heritage: a softer, more nuanced expression where subtlety and balance take center stage.
The name Bai Mu Dan means “white peony” and is inspired by one of China’s most prized flowers – a symbol of beauty, elegance and refinement. It is an apt name, as the tea carries a similar grace in both appearance and taste. The hand-picked leaves and buds produce a brew with a light golden tone, sometimes with a slight rosé tinge, that shimmers softly in the cup.
The flavor profile is round and well-balanced, with a gentle fullness that slowly spreads across the palate. There are no sharp edges here – instead you are greeted by smooth, almost velvety tones with hints of florality, light sweetness and a discreet freshness. It is a tea that does not overwhelm, but rather invites quiet enjoyment and reflection.
Bai Mu Dan is perfect for quiet moments – whether it’s a quiet morning, a mid-day break or a light and pleasant end to the evening. It’s a tea for those who appreciate the subtle, where each sip offers a soft and harmonious experience rather than a powerful intensity.
For this tea, we suggest that you try the Western brewing style. The idea behind this technique is to use fewer leaves and much more water, while brewing time becomes longer to extract as much of the taste as possible at one and the same time.
